Peter Murray, PA-C, Elk Point Community Health Clinic

Pete has been a PA at the Community Health Clinic for 12 years.  He moved here from Virginia, brought here by his wife who is a SD native.

 

He is a 1979 graduate from Touro College in New York, NY.  Pete is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and a member of the South Dakota Academy of Physician Assistants.  He is certified in ACLS and also an ACLS Instructor.

 

Pete’s work experience focuses primarily on family practice of which while in Virginia he worked in military clinics.

 

He is very involved in the Lewis and Clark Exhibition.  Pete and his wife Mary have 1 son TC.  Pete also plays drums in his band “Scratch That” in his spare time.

Karen Pearson, PA-C, Alcester Medical Center

Karen grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and always had an interest in science and people…so medicine was a natural career choice.  She was a nurse's aide in high school and college at a nursing home in Sioux Falls as she completed a medical assistant course from Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

 

She then completed LPN training from Southeast Area Vo-tech School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and followed that up with a Registered Nursing Degree from The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota.  Being a Physician Assistant was always a long range goal of Karen’s which she was finally able to accomplish through schooling at The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota.

 

Her work experience includes many medical clinics in Sioux Falls, Vermillion, Elk Point, Canton and Alcester, South Dakota as well as Sioux City, Iowa…of which she performed multiple duties including nursing, laboratory, bookkeeping, coding, insurance and physician assistant.   

 

Marrying a local resident in Alcester brought Karen to the area where her husband, three daughters and herself enjoy life on an acreage.  Karen’s main interests involve her children…watching and coaching them in there sporting events keeps her busy in her spare time as she also stays active with church and community activities.

Jeff Schild, PA-C, Elk Point & Alcester Clinics

Jeff was born, raised and educated in Yankton, SD.  He attended Mount Marty College receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology.  After spending nearly 18 years on the Yankton Police Department, most of them as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), he went back to college ultimately becoming a member of the inaugural class of the Physician Assistant Studies Program at the University of South Dakota’s School of Medicine in Vermillion, SD, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree.  While at USD, he received the “Outstanding P.A. Student of the Year” award for his class.  In March 2006, Jeff completed his Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC).

 

Jeff spent 6 years working in the South Dakota State Prison System where he took care of the male population at 2 facilities.  Upon leaving the Prison System, he came to work for Union County Health Foundation, doing part time work at both the Elk Point and Alcester Clinics.  He has also done part time work for Bon Homme Family Practice Clinic in Springfield, SD and took care of the juveniles at the Springfield Academy. 

 

Jeff is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.  He is a member of the South Dakota Academy of Physician Assistants.

 

He is active in Boy Scouts currently serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 133 in Yankton, a position he has held since the early 1970’s.  He is a charter member of Troop 133, becoming the first Eagle Scout in the troop and the first to receive a religious award.  He and his wife Barb have two adult sons.
