On September
20th, the Elk Point Community Health Clinic held a ground
breaking ceremony for the $437,300.00 expansion project. The ceremony included brief
statements of support by Jim Kooiman, President of the Board of
Directors; Scot Graff, CEO of the Community HealthCare Association
of the Dakotas & past Project Director for the organization; and
Mary Lou Mahin, past Board Member.
Also at the ceremony
were USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Tim B. Potts,
Area Director Trace
Davids, Area Representative Jim Rydell and USDA Rural Development
Manager Sherrie Lewis for presentation of the award for the
$409,000.00 Community Facilities Loan.
Mayor Isabel Trobaugh
spoke of the importance of continued expansion in our rural
communities and expressed thanks for the continued efforts of the
Community Health Clinic.
In addition, numerous
State Offices were present for support: Senator Tim Johnson
represented by Erik Nelson, Senator John Thune represented by Ben
Ready, Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth represented by Mark Gerhardt,
State Representative and Assistant Majority Leader Joel Dykstra and
State Representative and Assistant Minority Leader Margaret V.
Gillespie.
Bruce Odson, Chairman of
the Elk Point Economic Development Corporation expressed his support
for the Community Health Center Movement as well. Also in attendance were
numerous Board members & employees, members of the Elk Point
City Council & the Elk Point Economic Development
Corporation. Many
thanks to everyone that was in attendance for this memorable
occasion.
Earthwork for the project began in December 2006 and
